Remember these five rules next time you are getting dressed for work.
Do you ever stumble out of bed on a workday only to stare into your closet and moan, “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!” Well, my friend, you are not alone. I take part in that predicament almost every day. For me, it is important that I am dressed appropriately for work and comfortable. Who can get any work done when their pants are too tight or their shirt keeps riding? I sure can’t. So I like using the following rules when I get dressed for work:
There is nothing better than a cute pair of shoes with all-day comfort. We all have things to stress about throughout the workday and having uncomfortable shoes should not be one of them! I personally recommend Ozone for a cute sandal or Leeds, if you are looking for a bit of a lift.
Remember: you are at work! Wearing short skirts or low cut tops might have you tugging at your clothes all day so might as well keep them in your closet. I’m not saying to cover up from head to toe, but keep things at an appropriate length. When in doubt, I use the arm’s length rule: make sure your skirt or dress rests lower than your fingertips when your arms are resting straight down.
It’s important to dress appropriately for your industry and role. If you work at a startup where it’s ok to be more casual, go for it! Work at a fashion brand? Feel free to take risks and trend it up. If you work at a law firm, go a bit more professional. Whatever the case, make sure you are dressed for the job. (And for the job that you want!)
Trust me, I love a casual look more than most, but I always make sure to put thought into my outfit. For example, I like pairing a tee-shirt and denim skirt with a cute pair of heels. I wear my Hapuku’s with almost every casual look I own! Remember that accessorizing a casual outfit goes a long way.
YOU DO YOU! Show your style and personality at work! Spice up your work-appropriate look with something that makes your individuality stand out.
