Blowfish Malibu Wide Width Sneakers Are Here!

Let’s widen our options, shall we? Blowfish Malibu is finally offering wide width sneakers in style, Fruit!

I’ve been with Blowfish Malibu for 5 ½ years now and, to be honest, shoes were never really my thing. That is until I started working here! I’m a curvy girl with wide feet and I have always had a tough time finding shoes that comfortably fit. (Let’s hear it for the comfort-over-style crowd!) Don’t get me wrong, I could wear a cute bootie or wedge to death, but I would much rather be wearing a comfy pair of sneakers or sandals.

However, I haven’t been able to wear some of my favorite sneaker styles from Blowfish Malibu because my feet were just too wide. (But give it up to Marley, which has always fit!) It’s such a bummer because I love representing the brand that I work for, plus I am always envious of my coworkers who can wear all of our shoes with ease. But that was then…

Now, one of our best-selling sneakers, Fruit, is available in wide width!

To say I was excited when I heard this is an understatement! I ordered a pair literally the day they became available on Shoe Carnival’s website, and I was NOT disappointed. These shoes fit like a dream and they have what we call a “super comfy, super cute” memory foam insole which, I kid you not, is like walking on clouds.

I completely get the hype of this sneaker now. Guys, I have worn them at least four times a week since I’ve gotten them.

So, if you’re like me and have a hard time finding stylish sneakers for your wider feet, get a pair of Fruit. They are available in either black or grey from Shoe Carnival. You will not regret it!

Pride Month: Introducing a Special Edition Sneaker

We are celebrating Pride Month by releasing a special edition sneaker!

Across the globe, June is widely celebrated as Pride Month. It is a chance to honor the powerful, progressive, and positive impact that the LGBTQ community has around the world. It is also an opportunity to take a significant stance against discrimination and social stigmas. Pride Month is about positivity and often celebrated by parades, rallies, community events, special merchandise, and other festivities.

To celebrate the wonderful occasion this month, we launched a special edition Marley sneaker. This social sneaker proudly boasts colorful rainbow detailing on the shoe and throughout the insole. As always, the Marley sneaker continues to be one of the most comfortable and easy-to-wear shoes so you can confidently (and comfortably) celebrate all day. Marley features contrast rainbow stitching and a canvas upper with elastic on the vamp for easy off/on so you can effortlessly kick them off when you get home.

Whether you are honoring yourself, your friends, or your loved ones this month, check out our special edition Marley sneaker. They are undoubtedly a pair of shoes you can be proud to wear.

48 Hours in the Vex Sneaker

We put the new Vex sneaker to the ultimate test.

Have you ever owned a pair of shoes that you just never wanted to take off? So much so that you refused any other shoe in your closet? I remember when I was young, my little sister was obsessed with her cowboy boots. She had a pair of white, calf-high boots with pink fringe. They had a little heel and silver buckles. She wore them incessantly. The only time she ever took them off was for soccer practice. She would wear them to the field (picture her in her soccer shorts and jersey) before changing into her cleats. And when soccer practice was finished, she would immediately throw her boots back on. Now, that is love!

I’m looking for that type of unconditional love. I’m searching for a shoe that is durable, comfortable, stylish, and that I can wear nonstop.

The new Vex sneaker is just what I’m looking for.

I put Vex to the test and wore the sneaker from 9am – 9pm for two days. Learn about my findings below!

Comfortability

The first thing I look for in a shoe is comfortability. I want to make sure I am comfy and that the shoe is easeful. Vex’s appeal is in its comfort. This ultra-lightweight sneaker features a canvas upper with elastic on the vamp so putting the shoe on and taking it off is super easy. It’s light weight so the shoe easily bends and moves with your foot, and I have to say it felt really nice! I wore them with and without socks and not once did I get a blister.

Durability

These cuties are light weight but they pack a punch! I took mine out for a spin (hike) at Griffith Park, and though they did get a little dusty, they stayed strong and supportive. However, if you need extra support for your arches, I recommend getting inserts.

Style

I absolutely love the look of the newest silhouette from Blowfish Malibu. Vex features an upper with distressed edges and contrast stitching for a subtle pop. This sneaker goes with everything which made getting dressed each morning a breeze. On day one, I paired them with a mini sundress and denim jacket for a California-cool look. And on the next day I wore them with ankle tapered jeans and a mens white button-down long sleeve shirt. I felt totally put together and polished, yet casual and laid back.

So, it’s official. These sneakers go with everything and are super comfortable. I absolutely adore the new Vex sneakers and think I just may have found the love I was looking for.

What do you think about the new Vex sneakers? Let us know!

Sneaker Obsessed: A Roundup of our Favorite Styles for Spring

Three of our favorite sneakers for spring.

Spring is the month to bloom, my friends! I’m sure you are just as excited as I am to welcome spring with open arms. The weather is getting slightly warmer, the sun is out longer, the hills are green, and the flowers are blooming. But those aren’t the only things I’m excited about. It’s the fact that we can now begin to shift our wardrobe from winter to spring! So long, bulky layers. See ya later, beanies. Until next time, sweaters. Because it’s spring now! It’s time to break out those mini dresses and match them with your favorite Blowfish Malibu sneakers.

How to Wear One Style, Five Ways

How to wear one style five different ways.

I am a sneaker girl, through and through. No matter the weather, circumstance, or outfit I always find myself reaching for my sneakers. The laceless style, Play, is one of my favorites. Easy to slip on, super comfortable and beyond versatile, these shoes make getting dressed a breeze. Last week I decided to wear these cuties every day, Monday through Friday. Though I knew I would love wearing comfortable sneakers all week, I was surprised at how easy it was to style.

Take a look at how I styled the Play sneakers five different ways.

Monday: Play sneakers with long sleeve striped dress.

I love a casual dress, especially on a Monday morning. Mondays are tough as it is, so getting dressed shouldn’t be. Just throw on a casual dress, slip on your sneakers and you’re out the door!

Tuesday: Play sneakers with black denim, black sweater, and oversized jacket.

I love an all-black look with white sneakers. This style is fresh, city-friendly, and totally effortless. Next time you plan on wearing all black, modernize your look with white sneakers. It’s very rock ‘n roll… a la Patti Smith.

Wednesday: Play sneakers with distressed Levi’s and simple black long sleeve top.

Where are my fellow dog moms at? I love this easy-to-wear, classic look for a day running errands and hanging with my pup, Ruby. This style is honestly so simple to pull off. Plus the top can be swapped for a vintage graphic tee, classic white tee, or even a crispy white button-down. Mark this look “Ruby-approved.”

Thursday: Play sneakers with a ’90s vintage dress.

I am a huge fan of vintage fashion, especially when it nods to the early ’90s. Layer a sundress with a long (or short) sleeve top to bring the look to another level. Add a casual sneaker like Play to top it all off.

Friday: Play sneakers with distressed Levi’s, chunky sweater, and beret.

End the week with a comfy and cozy look like the one pictured above. To keep it casual and oh-so-California, slip on your Play sneakers for an effortless, beach-y look.

Are you a sneaker girl too? How do you like to style your favorite pair?

Malibu Mondays with Cori Shearer

Blogger Cori Shearer is smart, selfless, and ambitious. In addition, she is Blowfish Malibu’s babe of the week. Let’s just say we couldn’t be more enamored by her.

When we say we’re seriously impressed by Cori Shearer, author of the popular blog ‘a la code‘, we’re not kidding. Raised in Pennsylvania and currently living in San Francisco, Cori spends most of her days working in digital tech. In her spare time, she writes her blog as a way to document her experience of being a feminine woman working in a man’s world. We have been in awe of her for awhile, not only because of her perspective and writing, but also because she spends a great deal of her time giving back to her community.

As a small token of our admiration, we sent Cori a pair of Blowfish Malibu ‘Marley’ kicks to add to her shoe collection. “I’m currently loving and wearing the Marley slip-on sneakers. I love that Blowfish Malibu shoes are cute, comfortable, effortless, and many pairs are vegan-friendly,” she says.

We love Marley, too! But, as excited as we are about these sneakers, we’re even more excited to introduce you to Cori. Read on!

How long have you been creating content? What inspires you?

I recently celebrated pressing publish on my first blog post one year ago. I started my blog, a la code, to document my journey as a woman working in tech. My aim was to inspire others in a more accessible and inclusive medium. A la code, the blog’s name,  was inspired by a la mode, which is French for, in the style, and my love for technology. I’ve found that being feminine and working in tech is an evident rarity. I believe these two factors should be mutually inclusive, not exclusive. The concept of tech and who can design, invent, and produce it needs to be thought of as a viable future for all people.

My hope is to spark conversation and help set ablaze a future world in which the percentage of women working in technology today is but a fraction of the women dominating the tech industry tomorrow.

Where are you from and how has that shaped you?

I was, not that long ago, on the receiving end of need as a little girl supported by school lunch and after school programs. It was in those years, growing up somewhere in between central Pennsylvania’s chocolate factories, cheesesteaks, and Amish country, that I realized how, each one of us has the ability and power to influence others positively. Now, as a transplant in San Francisco, when I’m away from the keyboard, I work to empower others to identify and respond to oppression and inequality, to bring about fundamental change in social systems, and to commit to a life-long investment in service and social responsibility.

How would you describe your personal style?

Elevated and comfortable minimalism with pops of color and prints.

Who are your fashion icons?

Alex Michael May, Nadia Aboulhosn, Gabi Greg, and Elann Zelie.

Name your latest obsession.

Facial oils.

What creative projects have you been working on that you’re excited about? Can you tell us about them?

I recently worked on a campaign with Aerie as one of their summer #AerieReal ambassadors. If you’re in your local Aerie store, you might see me there! I’m also building out my own branding boutique, Brand New Vous, to help young professionals take control of their personal brand in order to present themselves in a way that inspires, intrigues, and builds confidence in their own abilities.

What’s your philosophy on social media and how do you approach it?

Quality > Quantity and Community and Collaboration > Competition.

Do you have a favorite social media platform?

Instagram.

What’s your dream travel destination?

Currently, Cuba.

When do you feel best about yourself?

When I’m in community with or helping others.

What’s your personal motto?

Every setback is a setup for a comeback.

What advice would you have for someone who’s trying to pursue the same interests as you?

Don’t delay, start today. Fear of failure debilitated me for so long and now that I’ve started, I’ve spent way too much time thinking about where I would be if I would have started sooner.

If you weren’t a content creator, what would you be?

While I love creating content, my true passion is ideating, developing, and bringing consumer-facing digital products to market.

Fill in the blank!

I learn the most from: Meeting new people and trying new things.

I can’t live without: My passport and my headphones.

Most people would say I’m: Ambitious

My full time job is: I’m a Product Manager at a tech company by day.

I’m currently listening to: Cardi B, Becky G, and H.E.R.

My style mantra is: Dress for the person you are today and not for the person you used to be or you wish you were.

I feel most comfortable in: A sweater, jeans, and booties.

When I woke up today I felt: Grateful and expectant.

Most people don’t know: I went to a performing arts high school for dance.

I feel the most free when: I’m traveling somewhere solo or dancing.
