Sail Away With Us – A Summer Soirée

Blowfish Malibu and Friends set sail on Friday, August 17th, on our first ever Summer Boat Party.

Our marketing team spent a month flushing out the plan for our summer soirée. From scouting the location, to penning the guest list, to the food that would be served. Plus we wanted to create epic goodie bags to give the girls to take home with them. Everything needed to be accounted for. Everything needed to be perfect.

Originally, we planned on hosting our summer bash at a local restaurant in Malibu. But our President Don Weiss came to the rescue and volunteered to host the event on his sailboat in Marina Del Rey. (Check out our last party on the boat HERE!) Obviously, this was the ideal way to host both a party AND give our guests an unforgettable experience!

So what was the plan, you ask? We invited a group of our favorite LA girls on board for lunch and rosé as we sailed up the coast to Malibu. For food, we went with our all-time favorite, Bay Cities Deli, offering everyone on board a selection of sandwiches and salads. (Our team cannot get enough of their caprese sandwich. We even brought the leftovers back to the office for everyone to devour!) More importantly, we aimed to give our guests an opportunity to meet other like-minded, creative women.

As for the guestlist, we spent a solid amount of time putting together a list of women who felt authentic to Blowfish Malibu. Our end goal was to invite gals who understand the brand and who would bring a positive attitude on board. Plus we wanted to meet ladies we could see ourselves developing lasting relationships with. Ultimately, we were ecstatic by the girls who came and CANNOT wait for future collaborations with them. Each gal was incredible in their own unique way!

We loved seeing everyone get into the sailing experience! We couldn’t be happier about the new memories and friendships.

A massive shoutout to Matrimony Media for coming along to sail with us for the day and for documenting the event so beautifully. In all seriousness, we cannot get enough of these photos.

And if you were wondering what those epic goodie bags contained, let me tell you. Each individualized tote included a branded Malibu Spirit Jersey, a customized beach towel, sunscreen, and a pair of Blowfish Malibu Play in white.

We can’t wait for the next Blowfish Malibu event! If you are interested in attending our next bash, let us know! We would love to meet you.

Malibu Mondays with Natasha Mira

We have a serious girl crush on our Blowfish Malibu babe of the week, Natasha Mira.

One thing is for sure. Natasha Mira is one talented girlboss who is constantly on the hustle. Raised in Los Angeles, Natasha spent the better part of the past decade creating content of all sorts, for all sorts. In her limited spare time, she’s a producer, song writer, fashionista and collaborator, partnering with similar creators and producers across Southern California. Oh, and her day job? She’s a Creative Marketing Manager at the legendary entertainment company, Lionsgate. (NBD.) Natasha shapes the creative direction for Lionsgate Premiere’s trailers, key art, and other marketing materials.

We sent her a few pairs of Blowfish Malibu kicks to add to her ever-growing collection. She spent some time running around her favorite spots in California to document her love for the shoes. In her words: “I was able to run all day around Santa Monica Pier, in and out of the sand, and into the ocean and these sandals remained in PRISTINE condition. I couldn’t believe it! I’ve been telling all my friends about how great the brand is.”

Aww, thanks girl! And now, everyone, meet Natasha. You’re about to be as obsessed with her as we are.

How has living in Los Angeles shaped you?

It is definitely a wonderful place to meet like-minded creative people. Studying at USC opened a lot of doors to meeting with filmmakers and creative partners who I still collaborate with today! Although I’ve lived most of my life in California, I would say I have a European soul at heart. My mother, Ilona Europa is Polish, and a singer/songwriter and radio host of her own show Accent On! on LA Talk Radio! Her creative influence has definitely shaped my art, music, and style! (www.ilonaeuropacreative.com)

How would you describe your personal style?

I switch between two extremes! I love tailored, sharp, and structured clothing that has a very polished feel, and then embellish my outfits with strong pieces like a unique blazer or pair of shoes. Ninety percent of my closet is filled with statement shoes and jackets! At the other end of the spectrum, I love whimsical dresses that are effortless and super feminine. It’s fun to play with style and really stand out.

I love how Rachel Zoe plays with fashion. I read an article on her the other day, and she described her style in a few words: “glamorous, timeless, effortless.” I think that sums up the outfits I try to put together for myself as well!

What was the last thing you were obsessed with?

Scones <3

What creative projects have you been working on that you’re excited about? Can you tell us about them?

I’m working on my debut album, CINEPHONIC, which I plan on debuting in the beginning of 2019. CINEPHONIC is truly the embodiment of music I’ve been writing for the past few years. I feel like I’ve been growing and preparing for this moment, and I’m so excited to share my own vision with the world. This is the first project that I’m completely directing. From producing photoshoots and music video shoots, to writing the songs, and to giving notes on the arrangements. I’m touching every aspect of this album.

My first single “Calling Out to Me” was a great introduction to the concept and power behind the word: CINEPHONIC (cinematic/symphonic music), but I think listeners will be surprised that I also have several songs that are more cerebral, subdued, and haunting. The entire album will vary in style and intensity, but they will all have emotive orchestrations with a singer-songwriter melody in common. Check out the video HERE!

I’m working on another music video concept currently with Armand Nour (my cinematographer for Calling Out to Me). I hope to release a few more singles over the coming months to keep everyone up to date on the full album before it debuts! I’m so excited to be working with producers from around the world (Dan Solovitz, Bob Weitz and Ilona Europa– USA, Michael Summ – Germany, Jonasz Wiewior and Patryk Scelina – Poland).

Armand Nour and Jaqui Gaball are also working with me to help shape the photography around my album. They both have very different styles and aesthetics which I love! Working together is really inspiring, and they both were the photographers behind my shoots for Blowfish Malibu! Armand shot me in the yellow sandals and Jaqui shot me in the white Marley sneakers – and I’m so beyond happy with how both shoots came out!

What’s your philosophy on social media and how do you approach it?

I use social media as a way to connect with people around the world, and to make opportunities for myself. I love taking chances and reaching out to brands, talented musicians, and people who inspire me. One of the songs on my album is actually from Patryk Scelina, a composer from Poland who I’ve never actually met. I came across his music online when I was promoting my music video, and fell in love with a song he produced called “Invisible Hero.” Social media provided the platform to reach out to Patryk to collaborate, and I wrote a song to his instrumental. Now “Invisible Hero” will be on my album, and we’re recording in the studio next week. We’ve been able to video chat and discuss the session all through social media, it’s incredible.

Do you have a favorite social media platform?

Instagram and Facebook are my go-tos!

What’s your dream travel destination?

I fell in love with London. My dream would be to live in the U.K. or Poland someday and experience living and working abroad.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

Imogen Heap or Lin Manuel Miranda. I think both are creative geniuses and I have so many questions about their creative processes!

What’s your personal motto?

I’d rather be busy than bored!

What are your thoughts on Blowfish Malibu shoes? Do you have a favorite pair?

I’ll be honest. I am obsessed with shoes, but I have a REALLY hard time finding shoes I love that are comfortable. I’ll probably try on 20 pairs of shoes at a store, and none of them fit just right. I was shocked when both Blowfish Malibu’s white Marley sneakers, and the yellow sandals fit me perfectly.

When do you feel best about yourself?

I have a list of goals that I continually add on to with both big and small dreams. Checking things off that list gives me a sense of accomplishment that I’m growing, challenging, and investing in myself.

What advice would you have for someone who’s trying to pursue the same interests as you?

Don’t compare yourself to anyone. There’s so much talent in the world that it can become overwhelming to some people, but I don’t look at amazing people as competition. I see talented people as an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and learn from their strengths. At the end of the day, if you feel good about what you’re putting out into the universe, I think the world will respond positively to that.

If you weren’t a content creator, what would you be?

I love marketing. When I’m not making content myself, working to promote other artist’s amazing content is what I’m pursuing alongside my own personal dreams.
