Malibu Mondays: The Getty Villa with @TheStyledSeed
Delaney Childs of @thestyledseed explores Malibu’s Getty Villa in the latest installment of Malibu Mondays!
Malibu Mondays, the series where we explore the many exciting corners of our hometown, is back. This week we teamed up with local SoCal fashion blogger, Delaney Childs, (aka @thestyledseed) to visit the iconic Malibu museum, the Getty Villa. The Getty Villa is the sister museum to the Getty Center, one of LA’s most popular and prominent museums. Built by J. Paul Getty in 1954, The Getty Villa was inspired by the Villa of the Papyri in the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum. It’s a romantic, dreamy spot to spend the day exploring in the California sunshine.
Delaney, a Reno native and self-described fashion lover, took us there to capture this iconic piece of LA history. She’s wearing the brand new color of our Marley sneaker – light gray antique smoked canvas – and we love how she styled it with a sweater and mini dress.
Learn more about Delaney, like who her style icons are and how she approaches social media, in an exclusive interview below!
How long have you been a fashion blogger? What inspired you to blog?
About a year and a half. I have ALWAYS been into fashion. Even when I was a little girl I would dress myself and change my outfit 2 or 3 times a day, so you could say it’s in my DNA 😉
Where are you from? How has that shaped who you are today?
I’m from Reno, Nevada. It has totally shaped who I am. It’s allowed me to have a great sense of family and community. It’s a somewhat small town with a lot of history and connection which has given me life long friendships and a deep and significant relationship with my own family and our history.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is ever changing – that’s what I love about fashion. It’s a current expression of what I’m feeling and who I am. But in general I would say I’ve always been drawn to edgy, somewhat boyish, and daring styles.
Who are your fashion icons?
I am obsessed with everything Gigi Hadid wears. I also love Rihanna’s style sense.
What is the last thing you were obsessed with?
Lately I’ve been obsessing over everything high waisted. Jeans, shorts, skirts etc.
What creative projects have you been working on that you’re excited about?
Since I’ve moved to SoCal (about a month ago) I’ve been able to network like crazy. This has allowed me to do so many fun and exciting things, from hosting events to being on a podcast last week. So things in that realm will be happening all year long, which I’m very excited about!
What is your philosophy on social media? How do you approach social media?
I believe that social media is my art gallery, it’s a place for me to express myself and share my life, my fashion, my body of work and my life with an audience. As long as I am excited and happy with my content I think that’s all that matters. To some extent I’m still running a business via social media so I am strategic but always authentic.
Do you have a favorite social media platform?
Instagram is by far my favorite. I just love how visual it is.
How long have you been wearing Blowfish Malibu shoes? Do you remember when you first bought them? Set the scene!
I’ve seriously been wearing Blowfish since I was about 15. I remember buying my first pair of booties and wearing them to school ALL the time. I had to wear a uniform growing up so wearing cute shoes was my only expression of style most days!
Do you have an all-time favorite Blowfish Malibu style?
I think the first booties I bought will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m not sure what the style was but they had buttons up the side and could fold down. So cute and fun!
What’s your dream travel destination? What would you do there?
Africa for sure. I’d just love to take in the culture, the landscape, and the contrast to my current life.
When is the best you feel about yourself?
When I’m not wearing makeup and I still feel pretty – those are the best days. They usually require a lot of rest the night before and the proper amount of hydration – lol. Without those two things concealer and bronzer is MUCH needed.
If you could invite anyone (dead or alive) over for dinner, who would it be? What would you eat?
I’d love nothing more than to have Tupac over for dinner. I think we’d eat french fries and ice cream!
What is your motto?
