LA Holiday Must Do: Salt & Straw Ice Cream

We get into the holiday spirit as we try the new ice cream flavors from the legendary ice cream shop, Salt and Straw.

The holiday season is in full swing, my friends! For some that means snow covered mountains, frozen fingertips, or bundling up by the warm fire. Though I would love to say Los Angeles is cozying up with the rest of the country, I just… well… cannot. Sunshine, warm winds, and perfect 75 degree weather continues to confuse (yet delight!) as we march into late December. (But, really, who can complain?)

On one of these very sunny afternoons, I ventured into Salt & Straw, an artisanal ice cream shop, to test out their holiday flavors.

I had been holiday shopping all day and needed a pick-me-up. I love me some gift shopping, but I think we can all agree it can be a little stressful. Hence, the embarrassingly quick bee line to Salt and Straw. The company is based in Portland and is known for their orginal, outrageous, and totally binge-worthy flavors. How original, you ask? Let’s just say caramelized grapefruit eggnog, roasted strawberry coconut, and black olive brittle and goat cheese, to name a few.

With a handful of stores located in LA, I knew I had to make a pit stop at Salt and Straw to get in line for their new holiday flavors! It looks like I wasn’t the only one on a quest for the holiday feels. As per usual, there were tons of people lining up for their chance at the new holiday ice cream flavors…

Flavors change on a monthly basis and I’m happy to report on some fun concoctions for December. I’m obsessed. Looks like I am going to need to learn how to make ice cream at home!

Luckily their friendly staff lets customers try as many flavors as they want. Of course, I tried them all!

After careful consideration (and what seemed like a few days), I finally opted for a split scoop of the Apple Brandy & Pecan Pie with Honey & Lavender on top. And yes, you read that right: Apple brandy and pecan pie, and honey and lavender. Un-believe-able. My other half chose Gingerbread Cookie Dough. All very, very tasty!
