Blogger Spotlight: Meet Laura Mazurek

Meet Laura Mazurek, one of our all-time favorite Blowfish babes.

In a quiet Texas town, where you can hear the birds singing and the bugs chirping, lives Laura Mazurek with her husband and baby girl. Their home is beautifully bohemian with cozy accents perfectly placed in every nook. It’s warm, it’s charming, and with just one sweeping look, you know love lives here.

We have known Laura for a long time now. An avid Blowfish Malibu shopper since 2012, we’ve seen Laura grow, flourish, and now become a loving mother. She has been a fashion blogger for the past ten years with Roots & Feathers and is now embarking on a new journey. She is the creator and writer for Mama Bird + Little Wing, a blog about motherhood, mama and baby style, and products she loves to use. This mother-of-a-toddler is also editor of the Bohemian Collective and co-owner of Skyline Fever, a hand-printed clothing line she shares with her husband. Often times, you can still find her huddled away in her studio creating bohemian jewelry and home accessories for Roots & Feathers. Read on to learn more about this gentle, creative, and inspiring soul.

How long have you been a fashion blogger? What got you into it?

I don’t really consider myself a fashion blogger, but I have enjoyed sharing my personal style from time to time for years now. I used to more often when I was blogging regularly, but life has changed quite a bit since I had a child!

How would you describe your style?

Casual Bohemian.

Who are your fashion icons?

I honestly don’t have any. I would say every day girls that I follow online inspire me a lot though. It’s always fun to see what others are wearing.

What is the last thing you were obsessed with?

My new Aria diffuser from Young Living! It’s gorgeous with its bamboo + glass design AND it plays music! You can hook your phone or iPod up to it and play anything you want while you diffuse your oils.

Where are you from? How has that shaped who you are today?

I’m from the Texas hill country, and still live here today. It has shaped me into being pretty laid back in life since the pace is slower here. It has also given me a love of nature from growing up on 22 acres of woods I got to romp around in. I spent my childhood days catching baby frogs in the pond, playing outside with the cats and being outdoors with my friends. I want as much of that as I can give to my daughter.

When is the best you feel about yourself?

When I am around people that I can just relax and be myself around. Good company is always a good reflection.

What is your approach to or philosophy about social media? Do you have a favorite social media platform?

Well, it used to be Instagram before the algorithms took hold. I guess it still is, but it’s just not the same. I’m a visual person and I love storytelling through visual images. I used to care a lot more than I do now. Nowadays I don’t mind so much if my feed is perfect and all my little squares don’t fit together perfectly. I share images of my huge laundry piles and messy faced toddler right alongside the more curated images. For me it’s about sharing life and connecting with others. I like things to be more real in a society that is so focused on only showing the polished and pretty.

How long have you been wearing Blowfish Malibu shoes? Do you remember when you first bought them?

FOR YEARS! They are my absolute favorite shoes, hands down. I got my first pair when I was in my 20’s when I stumbled across a pair of shoes that stood out from the rest in a department store. Little did I know that years later I would fall head over heels with them and have a rack full of them in my closet!

Do you have an all-time favorite Blowfish Malibu style?

I think every new style I get is my all-time favorite, ha ha! It used to be the booties, but my style has become super casual since having a baby, so right now it’s the Marley and Mondo!

What’s your dream travel destination?

Believe it or not, it’s Joshua Tree, California. Every photo I see from those who live there is so dreamy. I want to visit all the funky shops, stay in one of the beautiful hand-built Airbnb’s and see sights around that part of the state like national parks and Salvation Mountain.

If you could invite anyone (dead or alive) over for dinner, who would it be? What would you eat?

The honest answer is my parents and I would eat ANYTHING if I could spend one more dinner with them.

How do you balance work with spending quality time with your family?

I try to be present with the people I love as much as I can, but it can be like juggling sometimes. I try to work on important things that are work oriented while Ava naps or is busy eating or otherwise occupied. Or I try to include her if I can. When my hubby and I are working on making shirts for Skyline Fever, we always bring her with us in our garage and let her play while we print. Finding balance is just something you have to stay conscious about throughout the day.

Your baby girl is adorable! What has been the most rewarding thing about motherhood? Most challenging?

Oh my goodness, thank you! I am so in love with her! She has brought the most beautiful ray of sunshine into our world and she has filled so many holes in our hearts. The most rewarding thing is just watching her become herself. She is so smart and so, so silly. She keeps us laughing all the time, and it’s just the thing I needed in my life. The most challenging is keeping my house clean, ha ha! So long are the days of a perfectly clean home. Oh man, I had no idea the messes, and we are just in early toddlerhood!

What have you learned about yourself since becoming a mother?

That I am capable, I am strong, and my heart is way bigger than I ever thought it was!

What is your motto?

Fill in the blank!

I learn the most:  from my daughter.
I can’t live without:  essential oils + a good hat.
You can find me shopping at:  World Market + thrift stores.
My astrological sign is:  Cancer sun. I’m very compassionate, loyal + a little moody.
Most people would say I’m:  friendly.
My style mantra is:  if I feel good in it, then it’s a yes!
I feel most comfortable in:  skinny jeans,a flowy top + a good hat or head wrap.
When I woke up today I felt:  not quite as ready to wake up as my baby girl was.
Most people don’t know I’m:  quite shy even though I share so much online.
I feel the most free when:  I’m outdoors!

Thank you Laura! We’ll talk to you soon!
